"Teachers’ excellent subject knowledge and good encouragement give students’ confidence that they can succeed" – Ofsted 2013
The Halifax Academy is a 4 to 16 through school, which is highly regarded within our local community. We now have 903 students on roll.
We are committed to supporting the needs of all our learners whatever their abilities or backgrounds. We have good links with both primary and post 16 provision to ensure continuity of support and positive, smooth transitions.
Confidence and the development of communication skills are attributes that we seek to develop in all of our pupils. We are keen to continue to develop communication in its widest sense as our specialism. Our vision is to be a school ‘where hearts and minds connect’.
We have a strong family ethos and sense of belonging, much of which can be attributed to the well-established house system. Great care is taken to ensure that new students are placed into the same houses as their family members. New members of staff are also allocated to a house and are encouraged to attend weekly inspirational house assemblies and to engage with student activities. The system is a key element of school improvement, particularly with regards to awards, behaviour and attendance.
Students are encouraged to build on their interests and talents, taking part and performing well in a range of activities from international languages competitions and interschool council meetings to national wheelchair basketball tournaments and university taster workshops. Our students also raise a huge amount of money for a broad range of charities throughout the school year.
