Message from the Headteachers

Welcome

We are very proud, as the Headteachers of this academy, to welcome you to our website.  The Halifax Academy is a good academy that is on a rapid journey of improvement.  It is also the first all-through school in Calderdale, offering education for children aged 4 to 16. We place great emphasis on having the highest aspirations and being respectful to others. Those high expectations are reflected in the progress students make during their time at the academy. We have been identified as being one of the highest performing schools both in the local authority and nationally with regard to progress, particularly in English and Mathematics.

It is vitally important that students are well prepared for success in life in terms of exam results and outcomes, but success and happiness are about much more and we are proud of the work that both staff and students put in, over and above everyday lessons and learning, to develop confidence, creativity, resilience, problem-solving and many other life skills.

Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development

Each year we strive to offer our students a range of enriching and valuable experiences to support their spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development. Church and mosque visits, trips abroad, fundraising, musical performances, interview skills training, and university visits are just some of the additional experiences that students have taken part in to increase understanding and appreciation of different people, beliefs, cultures and the wider world. Our SMSC themed days, whereby students focus on respect, tolerance, fairness, safety and caring for others, are highly successful and valued by both students and staff.

Our values of Heart, Mind and Communication are strongly linked to British Values and our pride theme encourages students to take responsibility for themselves and their learning:

. Pride in your learning and work

. Pride in your uniform

. Pride in your academy

. Pride in your community

Opening of our new Primary building

We are very excited about our brand new primary building, which will open for lessons at the end of January. The primary children have enjoyed their roles as Project Managers; they have monitored progress very carefully, visiting the site regularly and even getting involved in painting the new walls. The children are all looking forward to moving into the new building and can't wait to see the wonderful stained glass window that pupils, parents and staff have created when it is unveiled in our learning resource base. We would love to show you around our school, especially if you are considering it for one of your children. Please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange a time to visit, by contacting Mrs Liz Leonard, on 01422 306980.

We are delighted to have a wonderful new learning resource base, our Musgrave room, which includes ICT facilities along with our library. There is the opportunity for people to sponsor a book for the library from just  £1.99 - please contact Mrs Finch on 01422 301080 if you would like to donate.

Bad weather procedure

According to recent weather forecasts, wintry weather may be on its way. In the event of snowfall we will do all that we can to keep the school open for the benefit of the students and would only consider closure in the most exceptional of circumstances. During episodes of bad weather, information about closure of the academy will be provided via Groupcall, the academy website, Twitter and local radio.

Finally

We would like to thank students, staff and parents for their continued hard work and commitment which will enable further success and achievement in the coming months.
